Paris welcomes the European Society for Medical Oncology congress in 2021

Nearly 30,000 professionals are expected at the Paris Convention Centre and other pavilions of Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.

ESMO, the leading European organization for oncology professionals, is organizing for the first time ever its annual congress in Paris from 17 to 21 September 2021.

The french capital offers the perfect background for the largest international conferences, in terms of accessibility, accommodation and transport networks in the city. Paris Convention Centre, the largest convention centre in Europe, connected to the exhibition halls of Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, allows all the necessary space for the growing ESMO congress. The venue’s continuing transformation program will bring more hotels, restaurants and services to improve the visitor experience.

The ESMO 2021 program will be developed by a committee composed of more than 300 international experts and will span from basic research to the latest discoveries in immunotherapy of cancer, from oncology nursing to palliative care, from rare cancers to approval of medicines. It will count on the scientific and research excellence of specialists, including among others those at the Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus Paris, Europe’s leading cancer care centre.

„ESMO is delighted to hold its Congress in Paris in 2021. The Society was founded in 1975 and the first Congress was held in Nice the same year, with pioneers in oncology gathering to exchange knowledge. The goal was, and remains, after more than 40 years, to provide a platform to bring the oncology community together to improve patient care. The ESMO Congress has grown dramatically and is now the leading oncology event in Europe attracting nearly 30,000 clinicians, researchers, oncology nurses, patient advocates, journalists and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry from all over the world.“ Keith H. McGregor, ESMO Chief Executive Officer

„We are proud to welcome the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress. This represents a real vote of confidence for Paris Convention Centre as the home of world leading events. Since its opening a year and half ago, it has already hosted thirteen world conferences, and 30 more are already in the planning stages through 2023. With Paris Convention Bureau, we will continue our efforts to make Paris one of the greatest destinations for the very largest gatherings.“ Pablo Nakhlé Cerruti, CEO of Viparis

„Paris is delighted to host this international congress in 2021. It is a positive signal for the destination and excellent news that rewards the efforts of professionals in the sector.“Jean-François Martins, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of tourism, Sport, Olympic and Paralympic Games.

„While Paris has just been crowned the world’s most popular congress destination by ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) and is hosting more and more major events, we are pleased to hear of ESMO’s decision to choose Paris for 2021. Welcoming this major international conference is great news for the destination and marks once again the success of the combined efforts of professionals in the sector and recognition of our expertise.“ Corinne Menegaux, CEO of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau
